Anadolu Agency's Diplomacy Journalism Training Begins

Participants from 15 different countries take part in training in Turkish capital

Anadolu Agency has begun its diplomacy journalism training program for participants from Balkans, Southeast Asia and Southeast Africa regions.

The two-week program for the participants from 15 countries was launched Monday in capital Ankara in collaboration with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and Anadolu Agency's News Academy.

The training program aims to establish a network with other correspondents, to inform participants on issues of diplomatic relations between countries of the region and Turkey's regional policy approach and to allow participants to compare diplomacy journalism in their country with other countries.

The training program began with the presentation of News Academy Deputy Coordinator Hayri Cetinkus on Anadolu Agency.

"We have different programs under the title of 'diplomacy journalism'; however, these programs are different from each other in terms of content. The needs of target are determined according to which country they are participating from... Thus we obtain efficiency in the programs," he said.

Northern Muslims Continue to Rot in Refugee Camps

The unfortunate plight of northern Muslims refugees, abandoned by Muslim politicians, the successive governments and even the international community speak volume for the bankrupt nature of the Island’s Muslim politics and even the community. Muslims were part and parcel of northern soil and society. Over

centuries this was their only place and their Tamil neighbors were the only people they knew. Most of them often felt alien when they visited the island’s south as they found it somewhat uncomfortable there due to the different social environment especially when it came to speaking in Sinhala.

Even around the late 1980s, the bulk of their concentration was in Jaffna city where they lived predominantly in three densely populated areas, namely Sonaka Theru, Ottumadam and Bommaively which were collectively known as Muslim ‘vattaaram’ -zones.

Their main activities were retail and wholesale hardware trade, lorry transport, jewellery and tailoring besides agriculture and fisheries.  They owned houses and properties besides paddy lands and fishery boats.Muslims dominated the trade at one stage to such an extent that two-thirds of the blocks in the new market in Jaffna, built by the Mayor of Jaffna, Alfred Duraiappah, and was monopolized by them.

கடந்த வாரம் (31.03.2015) நடந்த ஒரு மரணம் முழு  உடுநுவரையையே சோகத்தில் மூழ்கடிக்கச் செய்தது. அது தான் கண்ணாடி  களஞ்சிய சாலையில் உள்ள  கண்ணாடி சீட்கள் சரிந்து விழுந்து கழுத்து வெட்டப்பட்டு பரிதாபகரமாக உயிரிழந்த சம்பவம். தஸ்கரை பகுதியை சேர்ந்த 24 வயது இளைஞன் முஹம்மத் இஸ்பாக் என்பவரே இவ்வாறு மரணித்தவராவார். சமூக வலைத்தளங்களில் பகிரப்பட்ட இச் சம்பவம்  தொடர்பான காணொளி அனைவரையும் அதிர்சிக்குள்ளாக்கியது.

கண்டியில் அமைந்துள்ள கண்ணாடி வியாபார நிலையம் ஒன்றில் வேலை செய்யும் இஷ்பாக் தனது சகபணியாளுடன் மஹியாவையில் அமைத்துள்ள கண்ணாடி களஞ்சிய சாலைக்கு கண்ணாடிகளை எடுப்பதற்காக சென்ற போதே இவ்வனர்த்தம் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. கண்ணாடிகளை எடுக்கும் போது திடீரென இவர்பக்கம் சரிந்த கண்ணாடி சீட்களை தனது  கைகளால் தாங்கியபடி சகபணியாலரை  உதவிக்கு அழைத்து வரும் படி அனுப்பியுள்ளார். ஆனால் உதவிக்கு ஆட்கள்  வரும் போது அனைத்தும் நடந்து முடிந்துவிட்டன. 

பாரம் தாங்காமல் சுமார் 120 கிலோ எடை கொண்ட கண்ணாடிகள் இவர் மீது விழுந்துள்ளன.  இதன் பின்னர் கண்டி மாநகரசபை தீயணைக்கும் பிரிவினர் அழைத்து  வரப்பட்டனர். தீயணைப்புப் படையினர்  சுமார் ஒரு மணித்தியாலத்திக்கும் மேலாக மீட்க  முயற்சித்தும் அது தோல்வியில் முடிந்துள்ளது. இதனிடையே சம்பவ இடத்துக்கு வந்த களஞ்சியசாலை உரிமையாளர் சம்பவத்தை நேரில் பார்த்த அதிர்ச்சியில் மாரடைப்பு ஏற்பட்டு கண்டி வைத்திய சாலையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டு   சிகிச்சை பெற்று வருகிறார்.

வேலைத்தளத்தில் ஏற்படும் அனர்த்தங்களால் உயிரிழப்பு ஏற்பட்ட முதல் சம்பவம் இதுவல்ல. இதற்கு சில மாதங்களுக்கு  முன்பு தெமடகொடை பகுதியில் உயரமான  கட்டிடமொன்றில் நிறப்பூச்சு பூசிக்கொண்டிருந்த இரு இளஞ்சர்கள் கீழே விழுந்து கடும் காயங்களுக்கு உட்பட்டு சிகிச்சை பலனின்றி உயிரிழந்த பரிதாப செய்தியை கேள்விப்பட்டிருப்பீர்கள்.

நாட்டின் அபிவிருத்தியில் சமூகப் பணிக் கல்வியின் பங்கு இன்றியமையாதது

ஒரு நாட்டின் அபிவிருத்தி வெறுமனே பௌதீக வளங்களின் அவிவிருத்தியால் மாத்திரம் இடம்பெற முடியாது. மாறாக அவிபிருத்தி பூரணப்பட வேண்டுமானால் ஒப்பீட்டடிப்படையில் மனித வளங்களின் அபிவிருத்தியும் ஏற்பட வேண்டும். இவ்வாறான பௌதீக வளம் மற்றும் மனித வளம் உட்பட்ட சமூக அபிவிருத்தியை கொண்டே ஒரு நாட்டின் அபிவிருத்தியை அளவிட முடியும்.

அபிவிருத்தியை இலக்காக கொண்டு எந்தளவு முதலீடுகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டாலும் அதன் பூரண பயனை பெற்றுக்கொள்ள வேண்டுமாயின் அபிவிருத்தி என்பது மக்களின் உண்மையான தேவையாக மாறவேண்டும். மேலும் இடம்பெறும் அபிவிருத்தி திட்டங்கள் மீது அதன் பயனர்களின் மற்றும் நாட்டு மக்களின் நம்பிக்கை ஏற்படவேண்டும். சாதக மனப்பாங்கு ஏற்படுத்தப்பட வேண்டும். இதன் மூலம் அபிவிருத்தியின் பிரதிபலன்களை மக்களை சென்றடையச் செய்து நாட்டில் சமூக அபிவிருத்தியை ஏற்படுத்த முடியும்.

சமூக அபிவிருத்தியை ஏற்படுத்துவதில் சமூகப்பணியின் பங்களிப்பு மிக அவசியமான ஒன்றாக தற்பொழுது உலகம் பூராகவும் கருதப்படுகின்றது. அபிவிருத்தி அடைந்த நாடுகளை நோக்கும் போது அவற்றின் அபிவிருத்தியில் சமூகப் பணியின் பங்கு முக்கிய இடம்பிடித்திருப்பதை கண்டுகொள்ளக் கூடியதாகவுள்ளது. எமது நாட்டைப் பொருத்தவரையிலும் சமூகப் பணியின் அவசியம் அதிகரித்துச் செல்வதை உணரக்கூடியதாகவுள்ளது.

Facebook Launches App to Provide Free Data Acces

Facebook just launched the Internet.org app in Tanzania, providing free data access to a set of basic internet services.

Now everyone in Tanzania can now use the internet for free to find jobs, access health resources and use services like Facebook and BBC News to stay connected and informed.

Facebook plans to introduced the Internet.org app in Zambia this summer. The impact Facebook has seen is inspiring. An expectant mother using the internet to prepare for her pregnancy. A student using Wikipedia to study for her exams. A man living far from the library being able to download books online.

"When people are connected, we can achieve extraordinary things". Mark Zuckerberg written in his Facebook profile announcing the launch of the app. Mark Zuckerberg sees this is another small step on the path to connecting the world and making the opportunities of the internet available to everyone.

Sathmahal Prasada (Seven Storied Palace)

UNESCO's World Heritage Site of Satmahal Prasada located at Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka.

It is thought that this building is a rare kind of architecture built by King Parakramabahu (1153-1186).

This pyramid shaped, seven storied building is thought to be an unusually shaped stupa.

It is said that similar architecture can be seen in Cambodia and in Siam.

It is thought this has been built for the Cambodian soldiers who were working under the king as place of worship.

The building has four entrances from four sides. Also there is stair case to reach the upper levels.

A Wall of Bogambara Prison

The Bogambara prison was situated in the historic city of Kandy.

It was 13 acre maximum security prison and the second largest prison in Sri Lanka, after thw Welikada prison in Colombo.

The prison was built in 1876 by the British Ceylon Government.

Now the prison has been changed to Pallekelle, Kandy for the development purposes.
