Facebook Launches App to Provide Free Data Acces

Facebook just launched the Internet.org app in Tanzania, providing free data access to a set of basic internet services.

Now everyone in Tanzania can now use the internet for free to find jobs, access health resources and use services like Facebook and BBC News to stay connected and informed.

Facebook plans to introduced the Internet.org app in Zambia this summer. The impact Facebook has seen is inspiring. An expectant mother using the internet to prepare for her pregnancy. A student using Wikipedia to study for her exams. A man living far from the library being able to download books online.

"When people are connected, we can achieve extraordinary things". Mark Zuckerberg written in his Facebook profile announcing the launch of the app. Mark Zuckerberg sees this is another small step on the path to connecting the world and making the opportunities of the internet available to everyone.

An inspirational speech by Dr. Abdul Kalam

India's former president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam quotes a 3000 years old Tamil poem.

On an inspirational speech he delivered to the European Parliament at Strasbourg, France in April 2007.

In his speech he stresses the point that the universal peace begins with the single heart by quoting the words from the old Tamil literature.

Climate Change




Impact of Global warming and climate change on tea production is widely considered.

It has impacted in both quality and quantity of tea yield.

Lowland tea production already affected with the higher temperature.  And the increasing tendency of temperature in higher lands also brought the quality of tea production into less.

Droughts also impacted directly and indirectly into tea yield.

Sathmahal Prasada (Seven Storied Palace)




UNESCO's World Heritage Site of Satmahal Prasada located at Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka.

It is thought that this building is a rare kind of architecture built by King Parakramabahu (1153-1186).

This pyramid shaped, seven storied building is thought to be an unusually shaped stupa.

It is said that similar architecture can be seen in Cambodia and in Siam.

It is thought this has been built for the Cambodian soldiers who were working under the king as place of worship.

The building has four entrances from four sides. Also there is stair case to reach the upper levels.

A Wall of Bogambara Prison



The Bogambara prison was situated in the historic city of Kandy.

It was 13 acre maximum security prison and the second largest prison in Sri Lanka, after thw Welikada prison in Colombo.

The prison was built in 1876 by the British Ceylon Government.

Now the prison has been changed to Pallekelle, Kandy for the development purposes.
