In the latest political uprising in Kashmir, erupted following the killing of 22 year old Hisbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani on 8 July 2016, 48 people were killed and more than 3000 were injured.

According to New Delhi based NDTV the Indian armed forces shot at protestors using pellet guns aimed at faces blinding for life even children as young as five. Two weeks later Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited the state on 23 July 2016 with an appeal to armed forces to exercise maximum restraint.

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told Minister Rajnath that“Jammu and Kashmir needs a political solution and unless some long term measures are taken, the Kashmir issue will continue to burn. The central government should accept the reality of the Kashmir issue”.

Severely criticising the forces former Minister and Democratic Nationalist Party (DNP) Chairman, Ghulam Hassan Mir said the” forces have committed ‘atrocities on people leading to alienation among them.The situation is turning from bad to worse and there is a need for working out an out of box solution”.

Realizing the seriousness of the situation Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Saif-ud-Din Soz asked all the political parties  to pay heed to suggestions made by former Union Minister P Chidambaram who has favoured greater autonomy for Jammu and Kashmir.

Northern Muslims Continue to Rot in Refugee Camps

Ignored by successive governments, their own politicians and international community

The unfortunate plight of northern Muslims refugees, abandoned by Muslim politicians, the successive governments and even the international community speak volume for the bankrupt nature of the Island’s Muslim politics and even the community. Muslims were part and parcel of northern soil and society. Over

centuries this was their only place and their Tamil neighbors were the only people they knew. Most of them often felt alien when they visited the island’s south as they found it somewhat uncomfortable there due to the different social environment especially when it came to speaking in Sinhala.

Even around the late 1980s, the bulk of their concentration was in Jaffna city where they lived predominantly in three densely populated areas, namely Sonaka Theru, Ottumadam and Bommaively which were collectively known as Muslim ‘vattaaram’ -zones.

Their main activities were retail and wholesale hardware trade, lorry transport, jewellery and tailoring besides agriculture and fisheries.  They owned houses and properties besides paddy lands and fishery boats.Muslims dominated the trade at one stage to such an extent that two-thirds of the blocks in the new market in Jaffna, built by the Mayor of Jaffna, Alfred Duraiappah, and was monopolized by them.

பதில்: ஒன்றிணைந்து வாழ்தல் என்ற சொற்பிரயோகத்தில் ஒரு குழப்பநிலை காணப்படுவதாகவே நான் நினைகின்றேன். நீங்கள் அனைவரும் இலங்கையின் பிரஜைகள். இது உங்களுடைய நாடு. மத ரீதியாக சிறுபான்மையினராக இருந்தாலும் இது உங்கள் நாடு. இலங்கை கலாசாரத்திற்குள் வாழும் நீங்கள் இலங்கை முஸ்லிம்கள்.

பரந்த இலங்கைக்குள் ஒன்றிணைத்து வாழ்தல் போன்று கருத்துப்பட எப்பொழுதும் பேசுவதன் மூலம் இது உமது சமூகமில்லை, இது பெரும்பன்மையினரின் சமூகம் மாத்திரம் என்ற உணர்வை எற்படுத்துகின்றது. ஆனால் இந்த சமூகம் அனைவரினதும். அனைவரும் நாட்டின் சமஉரிமை கொண்ட பிரஜைகள். இவ்வாறே இது அமைய வேண்டும் என நான் நினைக்கின்றேன்.

02. கேள்வி: பல்லின சமூகத்தில் வாழும் போது முஸ்லிம்களின் அடையாளத்தை பேணி வாழ்வது சவால்மிக்கது. ஒன்றிணைந்து வாழும் போது எவ்வாறான அடையாளங்களை விட்டுகொடுக்க முடியும் எவ்வாறான அடையாளங்களை விட்டுகொடுக்க முடியாது?

பதில்: நாம் ஒன்றிணைத்து வாழ்தல் மற்றும் எமது அடையாளங்களை பேணுதல் என்ற பத பிரயோகத்தையே சவாலாக கொள்ள வேண்டும். இங்கு முக்கிய விடயம் என்னவென்றால் இஸ்லாத்தின் அடிப்படை கொள்கைகள் என்ன என்பதனை அறிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும்.

ஆரோக்கியமான அரசியளமைப்பொன்றுக்கு மக்கள் பிரதிநிதிகளை தெரிவு செய்வோம்

8 வது பாராளுமன்றத்தை தெரிவு செய்வதற்கான தேர்தல் எதிர்வரும் ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம் 17ம் திகதி இடம்பெறவுள்ளது. பாராளுமன்றத்தில் ஆசனங்களை தக்க வைத்துக் கொள்வதற்காக பல அரசியல் கட்சிகளும் சுயேட்சை குழுக்களும் தயாராகி வருகின்றன. எதிர்வரும் 15ம் திகதி வேட்பு மனு தாக்கல் செய்யக் கூடிய இருதிதித் திகதியாக அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள நிலையில், பல அரசியல் வாதிகளும் தமது பெயர்களை வேட்பாலாளர் பட்டியலில் சேர்த்துக்கொள்ள முனைப்புடன் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளமையை காணக்கூடியதாக உள்ளது. மதில்களில் ஒட்டப்பட்டுள்ள சுவரொட்டிகளை அவதானிக்கும் போது இதனை உணந்துகொள்ள முடியும். கடந்த ஜனாதிபதி தேர்தலை தொடர்ந்து நாட்டில் நல்லாட்சி தொடர்பான கோசங்கள், கோரிக்கைள் சிவில் சமூக்த்தவர்களால் எழுப்பப்படுகின்ற நிலையில் கட்சிகளும் பழைய அங்கத்தவர்களை மாத்திரமல்லாமல் பல புதிய அங்கத்தவர்களையும் இணைத்துக்கொள்ள ஆலோசித்து வருகின்றமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

இதனிடையே வாக்களர்களை அவதானிக்குமிடத்து தமது வாக்குகளை யாருக்கு வழங்குவது என்று இன்னும் தீர்மானிக்காத நிலையிலேயே உள்ளனர். தற்போதைய அரசியல் களத்தில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள நிலையற்ற தன்மையே இதற்கு காரணமாக உள்ளது. ஜனாதிபதி தேர்தலில் தோற்கடிக்கப்பட முன்னால் ஜனாதிபதி மஹிந்த ராஜபக்ஷவின் மீள்வருகை, பல அரசியல் கட்சிகளின் நிலை மாற்றங்கள், புதிய கட்சிகளின் வருகை, எதிர்பார்க்கபடும் புதிய கூட்டனிகளின் உருவாக்கம் என்பன இந்த நிலையற்ற தன்மைக்கு காரணங்களாக அமையலாம்.

So, once again yet another parliamentary election to elect a new government!The question is what the choice available is for the island’s unfortunate voters.Inevitably the only choice is between the two major political parties-United National Party and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party- both of which, with their racist politics, brought the country to today’s shameful state of affairs.

These two parties were solely responsible for dividing communities to promote the majority Sinhalese at the expense of the minorities to either remain in power or capture power.

Sri Lanka with very high literacy, stable economy and communal harmony was a role model for the entire newly emerging Third World countries during the time of independence in 1948. Today, despite all its natural resources, literate  population, long  and rich historic past  and all other advantages, it is one of the most mismanaged countries in the world  known for crime, corruption at all levels,, collapse of rule and law, mismanagement of government institutions ,fast declining moral values and the list continues.
